Company History

Soil-Max was started in 1997 by Denny Bell. Overwhelming yield data concluded that drainage (water management) is by far the main ingredient to higher yields. Denny owned Agri-Logic, who wrote Case and Ag Leader’s early yield mapping software. After visiting with 1000’s of yield mapping customers at farm shows, virtually everyone agreed that drainage was about the only correlation they could consistently see impacting yields. Since most farmers had a 20,000 pound tractor or larger, it made a lot of sense to come up with an economical way to install drainage tile and use their existing tractor. They already had the main expense, the tractor!

Since then, the Gold Digger tile plow has been an extremely successful product and at every farm show customers come up to the booth to tell us that their Gold Digger is the best product they have ever bought. Many farmer/contractor customers have said the Gold Digger grade control is better than their other commercial equipment. Several NCGA corn growers who win state yield contests own Gold Digger tile plows. It has really been a fun product to sell since everyone loves it!

The main reason many farmers haven’t bought a plow is because they are concerned about the learning curve, if they can pull it, and if they have enough time. Virtually every customer feels very comfortable after the first couple of days running the plow. If your tractor won’t pull the plow as deep as Soil-Max says it will we will refund your purchase. We don’t want any unhappy customers. As far as the time to run the plow, quite frankly you will find time for any thing that is important to you. If higher yields are important to you, you will make time for this. If you can just run the plow a week a year, you will easily pay for it. Can you say that about any other equipment? Surely there is some job you do now that doesn’t have near the payback of tiling.

Denny still farms in western Indiana and has tiled all of his own ground and has tiled many rental farms after securing long term farm rental contracts. The tile plow has been a tremendous tool for attracting new landlords. With current land and grain prices, tiling with the Gold Digger is a tremendous investment.
